From the desk of the President
It’s a matter of great pleasure for me to welcome all the students and other members of KGP community to this website on the behalf of Technology Students’ Gymkhana. I feel extremely privileged to lead the Students’ Gymkhana which has been an integral part of this bustling campus, serving as the hub of numerous extra-curricular activities over past few decades and has the capacity to impact the socio-cultural dynamics of the campus. It has played a pivotal role in shaping up the lives of many KGPians and we hope to take it to newer heights this year.
As the president of Students’ Gymkhana, I have the primary responsibility on my shoulders to look after the extra-academic activities in the campus and provide a conducive environment to the KGPians for their all-round development. We have state of the art facilities available for different fields, be it sports, technology or cultural. As far as sports facilities are concerned, we have recently opened the newly built Mahatma Gandhi Stadium for students’ use. It’s going to be further developed into a fully fledged multi-purpose stadium which will boast of top class sporting facilities. Apart from that, construction of new swimming pool, indoor stadium, basketball and badminton courts, synthetic tennis courts is also underway and we will see them coming up in near future. And as you all must have observed by now, Jnan Ghosh stadium is being renovated to turn it into a national level sports stadium having synthetic track, hockey field, flood-lights and spectators’ gallery. I believe that all these are surely going to help us in bettering our standings in Inter IIT Sports Meet. On the technology front, our students have been on a roll by winning the Inter IIT Technology Meet for last few years and that speaks volumes about the technical calibre of students. KGPians have also been involved in various hackathons and other technical projects that have solved many real-life problems. We are determined to go for that extra mile in order to sustain the technology culture in the campus. As far as cultural activities are concerned, there are many societies out there which have played their part in fostering the students’ capabilities to perfection. And that has got reflected in our impressive performance at recently concluded Inter IIT Cultural Meet. When it comes to the well beingness of the students, Gymkhana has been trying to do its best in keeping students motivated, energetic and full of spirit. ‘Happiness Kiosk’ – a centre for students to do whatever that gives them happiness, be it singing, dancing or playing and ‘Hall of Fame’ – a picturesque tale of the achievements of KGPians in order to preserve their glory for the upcoming generations, these are two other projects that we are going to take up in the very near future. The newly formed ‘Institute Wellness Group’ has also been proactive to conduct sensitization programs. As a whole, Gymkhana has been successful so far in its mission to provide a platform for the wholesome development of KGPians and we hope that we all can chip in with little contributions to make sure that this ‘KGP culture’ gets better and better with time. As Gymkhana president, I’ll leave no stone unturned for the same.
But there’s a limit to which we, as an institutional body, can offer you facilities, services and help. Now, it totally depends on how enthusiastically do the students come forward and make the best use of the resources available for their personality development. It’s now up to the students to come forward and join the various gymkhana activities. These activities not only bring out the best in you but also help in nurturing leadership skills, maintaining fitness, learning skills and realising your potential. Come out, lessen the obsession with social media, interact with people, make real friends and take part in activities. Given that there are only a limited number of students that can be admitted to the societies, that’s not the end of the day. Pick a hobby, pursue it with passion, continue it with your academics and explore the uncharted territories in the life. Only academics is not what KGP life is meant for! If not, you are surely going to rue over the missed opportunities once you graduate out and remember, these days aren’t going to come again. I wish you get a complete experience, develop your personality and make the most of your KGP life.
Technology Students’ Gymkhana has always strived to do what’s the best for students’ interests. In an attempt to cater to the needs of students’ and make things convenient for them, we are presenting before you this website – a much-awaited ambitious project that has finally seen the light of day. This website has been designed to act as the central database of all the activities, information, notices and other things going around the campus day in and day out. Yes, students already had access to various means through which they were able to get to know about these but the haphazardness and lack of systematic dissemination are what that has prompted us to go for a single central website, completely dedicated for this purpose. This is where you will be finding all the necessary information regarding KGP campus which includes societies, fests, office bearers, General Championship updates, achievements, notices, articles etc. I would like to thank the entire team which has put tireless efforts into this and sincerely believe that it will go a long way in helping out the students. Especially, I have observed that newly admitted students don’t have much idea about the various streams to get the knowledge about various facets of the campus. This website is tailor-made to serve their purpose and they will be its biggest beneficiaries.
I also take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been directly or indirectly part of this unending journey and hope that it will get better with time. We have continuously strived for newer heights and let’s achieve it together to make KGP one of the best platforms to provide all-round development opportunities. I also wish everyone all the best in their future endeavours!
